Eve was born in Yakima, Washington and grew up there after living in Arizona for a few years. She loves living in Washington and the Puget Sound area. For as long as she can remember, she's always had a special connection with animals. It could have been because she was an only child. Her childhood pets included the usual dogs and cats that were more her family than pets. As a teenager she had a horse, a mare named Brandi. Not only did she love to ride her, but also she would lay on her back in the warm summer sun.
What's really remarkable though is that animals seem to have the same attraction to her. It's as if they seek her out, or perhaps are guided to her. Her calico that she had for sixteen years reached out from her cage at the animal shelter to "choose" Eve as her new friend. A kitten followed Eve home after she was out for a short stroll with her new baby daughter. Now her daughter and the kitten are eleven years old.
At one point, she helped rescue and care for two pregnant dogs, a German shorthair and a poodle mix. Included with the two litters (one of six, the other of eight) her own German Shepard (that was a part of her family for over 17 years) had a litter of six puppies herself at the same time. It was a round the clock care for many hungry mouths, mothers included. Not only did every puppy survive, they all found loving homes, every one of them because of Eve. She didn't blindly give them away and made sure their new homes were suitable by checking out the potential owners.
Not only have dogs and cats found there way to her door, but other not so common animals have sought her out. A domestic goose showed up at her front door. She ended up finding it a home with friends of hers who had their own geese and pond after a search for it's owner turned up empty. Another time a small lovebird found it's way into her front yard. Nobody in the immediate area had lost a bird, or at least claimed it so it became a pet of hers. Once an animal is in her care there is in no safer place it could be anywhere in the world. It will be cared for, sheltered, fed and loved. No matter what kind of animal it may be.
Eve does admit though, there is something special about a dog. Their ability to raise your spirits and take down barriers works better than any prescription. Eve has teamed up with the family's new addition, a yellow lab named Lewis. He's more than just their pet. Lewis is their service dog who Eve got and trained to help offset learning difficulties they're still continuing to discover with Adelle, their daughter. Lewis has been so much more. He has a healing heart that works not only on people but other animals as well.
Eve sought out the right dog for Adelle reviewing breeds and disposition, carefully deliberating the right match. She looked at many litters of various breeds and ended up choosing Lewis because of his calm affable nature. Eve knew it when she found the right dog. Call it what you will, but she just "knows" it when she "finds it". Eve has trained Lewis on the finer points of being an excellent therapy dog. In his own way, Lewis has trained her too.
Animals have always been a large part of Eve's life. She is deeply devoted to them. An animal in her care will not find a better place. Her heart is giving to them to provide for their comfort. In her home there is always room for another. Those that are lucky enough to live with her are showered with love. She wishes she could help all animals. It is that drive that compels her to do well for them. If she can't be there for all of them, she's going to be there for as many as she possibly can.
It has always been Eves dream to dedicate her life to animals. Her pets have benefited from her care and she feels the same in return. If they hurt, she hurts for them. Some people are just naturals at what they do. Eve is a prime example of that. Just as important it is for a doctor to be a skilled physician it's also important to have a warm bedside manner. The love Eve has for animals cannot be measured. However all you have to do to get an idea how much is to see her around them. Love would be an understatement in her home. Love IS her home.
